Super students achieve record A Level success

A Level results at the college in 2012 have risen for the fourth year running. The average points that each A Level is awarded increased again this year, showing that the quality of outcomes overall are constantly improving.

22% of all grades received A*-A which is broadly in line with the national average for state schools. 46% of all grades achieved were at A*-B and the number of A*-C grades has reached an all time high of 77%.

At AS Level, results were higher than in 2011 with an increase of 5.2% in the number of A grades to 16.7%. AS grades have increased for the third year running with a further increase in the overall pass rate.

These results reflect the sheer hard work and dedication of the students. There have been some outstanding individual successes including Sam Ford who achieved 3A* grades and A at A Level. Sam has been accepted to Warwick University to study Maths. Twin brothers James and Michael Spencer achieved a total of 6 grades As, 2 Bs and a grade C. James will be attending Birmingham University next year to study International Relations while brother Michael will be going to Leicester to study Maths. Mabel Winter secured 4 A Levels including an A*, 2 As and a grade B in order to take up a place at Sheffield University to study History.

Overall the performance across the different subject areas was strong with continued success in the academic subjects of English, Maths, Science, Languages and the Humanities. The hallmark of the college, its Art and Design Technology Faculty, achieved its normal outstanding success with 25 grade A and A*s being achieved across Art, Graphics, Photography and Textiles.

My thanks go out to all of the staff, parents and the High Schools for their support and hard work in providing the students with the best opportunities they can in order to achieve the success we have seen today. A higher number of students than predicted secured a place on the university course of their choice during the result day.

Another triumph for the college was in Languages where 11 pre-16 students achieved a year early, an A to C in either AS Level French or German . This included student Kirsten Martin who has achieved an A in AS German and B in AS French at the same time as sitting all of her GCSEs.

The staff and governors of the college would like to say a huge well done to all of their Post 16 students and wish them the best of luck for the future.
