A GLITTERING CELEBRATION OF STUDENT SUCCESS - CLASS OF 2013

On Thursday 27 September, 48 former Year 11 students were recognised for their success, hard work and wider contribution to the college.

This was the 2nd Annual Student Awards to be held at the college.  It was a tremendous celebration as the college recognised not only the academic excellence of students such as Phoebe Coleman and Callum Tebbatt (the highest achieving students of the year), but also those who had overcome adversity to achieve outstanding success.

Eve Radoja scooped three awards including the Pride of Groby trophy presented by Principal Robert Coles.  Eve blossomed over the last two years to become a confident and articulate student.  Curriculum area and House awards were presented by the team leaders in recognition of the outstanding personal and academic success of some of the students.

The star and guest speaker during the evening was media personality, renowned gardening expert and former student Ady Dayman.  Ady left the college in 2004 and has subsequently followed a career in radio and television as well as running a specialist chilli growing business.  Ady wowed the crowd with memories of his time at the college and gave some personal advice to the students on how to succeed as they embark on the next phase of their education.  Yr11 awards HR-66

‘OH WHAT A NIGHT’ AT GROBY COMMUNITY - CLASS OF 2012

The first Annual Awards Ceremony for the college was held on Thursday 27th September 2012 as a celebration of the success of the students from the GCSE Class of 2012. Nearly 100 students returned to college to collect awards for their achievements during Year 10 and 11. It was a tremendous evening, enjoyed by students past and present, parents, carers and staff from the college. Ex-student Michael Walker, actor and puppeteer, delivered an inspirational speech in which he encouraged all of the students to grab every opportunity that comes their way. Michael is now best known for his alter ego – Basil Brush!

Many of the awards that were handed out will be annual cups and shields. The students who received these awards were the first students to have their names engraved on the plaques which we hope will become littered with the names of successful students over the coming years. The main award winners were as follows:

Top Achieving Girl – Ellen Ormerod with
11 A* GCSEs
Top Achieving Boy – Will Murfitt with 8
A* GCSEs
Pride of Groby – Bethany Brunsdon

Extra-Curricular Award – Sami Kissai
(Sponsored by Mr Chris Hannaford)
Most Improved Student – Daniel Brown
(Sponsored by Mrs Di Robinson)
Excellence in Sport – Elliot Coring
(Sponsored by Mr Martyn Thompson)

A number of awards were given for the different subjects.  These awards were presented by the Curriculum Leaders who were proud to congratulate the students who had achieved the most in their subject areas.

Well done to all of the students from the Class of 2012.
