Year 12 and 13 have now settled into their new timetables. We welcome 10 new students to Groby College who have joined Year 12 including two students from international schools.
They are Onderj Papez from the Czech Republic and Domenico Romano from Italy. As always our Post 16 students have helped out and made friends with the new students. I hope all of you will be happy at Groby College.
In August we celebrated the results of our Year 13 with a prom at the Holiday Inn Leicester. A good night was had by everybody. Prom queen was Charlotte Okuniewski and prom king was Neil Gill. The photographs will soon be added to the gallery in the Post 16 common room.
In July we hosted our PE awards evening and I would like to congratulate the Post 16 students mentioned in the PE article later on in this newsletter.
James Garner left Post 16 in the summer of 2011. When at Groby his talent for composition became apparent. Last year he accepted a scholarship from the Guildhall School of Music which meant he had to turn down the scholarships he was offered by the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire! He is a talented young man who has written choral, orchestra, chamber and solo works including pieces for Leicestershire Chorale and Leicester Cathedral Choir. This year James took part in a Jubilee concert at the Fraser Noble Hall, London Road.
