Dear Parent / Carer,
I would like to thank you for your support with the introduction of our college uniform. We feel that this has resulted in a much more positive attitude amongst our young people.
Many students and parents report (particularly Year 11) that having a uniform means much less stress for them each day as they no longer feel compelled to conform to shifting fashions and peer pressure.
It is with regret however that I have to raise the issue that a number of students are coming to college in items of clothing that do not meet the uniform requirements as laid down at the start of the academic year (please see website). Quite rightly, a number of parents have pointed out that there seem to be too many short and tight-fitting Lycra skirts and in some cases girls wearing tight fitting trousers. Too short skirts and tight fitting trousers are not allowed under the uniform regulations that we outlined to you in various letters at the start of the year.
The only change we are making is in recognition that it is hard to purchase knee length skirts.
Items not allowed:
- Tight fitting / Lycra skirts
- Tube skirts which are tight / stretch
- Black jeans
- ‘Miss Sexy’ style trousers / tight Lycra trousers
- Leggings
- Shoes or trainers with coloured logos
- Brightly coloured sock/tights
Items allowed:
- Plain black shoes or trainers (no logos)
- Plain black tights or socks (no patterns)
- Tailored trousers (black only)
- Tailored skirts - no shorter than 10cm (4 inches) above the centre of the kneecap (black only)
- The following skirts acceptable are:
• Drop waisted pleated skirts (M&S)
• Traditional pleated skirts (M&S)
• Straight skirts (M&S)
• Pencil skirts (M&S / Tesco / Asda)
• Back to School skirts (Tesco / Asda)
• Box pleated skirts (Asda)
• Senior girls skirts (BHS)
• Belted skirts (Tesco) - *The shops and stores listed above are only suggestions but they do give you an idea of skirts that are acceptable for college
Students will have two weeks commencing Monday 29 October to ensure that they have the right school clothing before sanctions for uniform infringement are imposed. From Monday 12 November students will be expected to be in the correct uniform.
Thank you for your continued support as we introduce our uniform and work hard to get it right. If you have any concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact us at the college.
