Our group of 13 arrived in Germany on Sunday 17th February, and we travelled on two trains and a bus to the Jugendherberge Luneburg where we stayed.
On Monday, we spent the day in one of the local schools, the Wilhem Raabe Schule, and stayed in our partner’s lessons. The school finished at 1.15pm so we travelled into Hamburg and had a bus tour of the city. On Tuesday we went to Berlin to visit a holocaust memorial, and the parliament building, der Reichstag to have a guided tour. We later went to the Stasi prison for a tour. It snowed so everyone was really excited. On Wednesday, we met students from another school in Leicester and with the Wilhem Raabe Schule, we went to the Volkwagen factory in Wolfsburg. It was really interesting and we had a tour of the factories and got to sit in Porsches and look round different types of cars. Our group went out in Luneburg for a meal as it was our last night in Germany. On Thursday morning we sorted our packing and got ready to leave the hostel. We went for a look round Luneburg as we hadn’t actually seen much of it. We started travelling to the airport again to depart. My favourite part of the trip was the Volkswagen museum as it was amazing to see all the different cars they produce and it was also good to be able to practice speaking German. I’d like to be able to go to Germany again, as it has been a great experience. We made a lot of friends from Beauchamp and Wilhem Raabe Schule! I would recommend the trip to anyone learning German, as it is great how much of the language you pick up!
