Life beyond levels: Focus 2015-2016
Aims: to achieve curriculum cohesion Years 7-11 by September 2016
to achieve assessment cohesion Years 7-11 by September 2016
Following discussion at SLT, the FWTSA Life Beyond Levels group, and the Enrich group of area secondary and primary head teachers…
January 2015 – July 2016 Brookvale will:
- Continue to use levels to measure attainment and progress at Key Stage 3, until July 2016
- Work towards curriculum cohesion Years 7-11, in collaboration with Groby College
- Mapping the development of skills, knowledge and understanding to be learned in each year
- Creating the flight paths students of different abilities will need to follow
- Preparing them for the new GCSE final exams where students will be required to show their learning in greater depth
- Take curriculum change at Key Stage 2 into consideration, especially in Years 5 and 6 in order to build effectively on previous learning
By September 2016, Brookvale will implement new assessment procedures at Key Stage 3.
The new assessment procedures will:
- Be coherent 11-16
- Provide an accurate framework for measuring attainment and progress at Key Stage 3, so that teachers and senior leaders can monitor, analyse, give accurate feedback and provide intervention as appropriate
- Take Key Stage 2 outcomes as a starting point
- Ensure that progress is effectively reported to parents so that
- Parents get regular updates on progress, behaviour and attitude throughout the year
- Progress is related to ability as well as potential GCSE outcomes
- Each individual report is clear and easy to understand
