June/July 2013

The end of a busy year is close and a huge thank you goes out to all of our students and families for their hard work and support this year.

In true college style, the last half term has been packed with busy Performing Arts activity. The end of the year is always an enormous culmination of the students’ work. The Year 13 BTEC Performing Arts productions included the dance show ‘Step Back in Time’, a production of the musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and the classic 1970s play ‘Abigail’s Party’. All pieces played to packed audiences and showed off the sheer talent of the students as they completed their final pieces from their courses.

The business acumen of the students was also demonstrated at the county final for Young Enterprise. Despite the final taking place in the middle of the AS exams, a number of the directors from this year’s company IOTA, represented the college at the final. They competed throughout the day in the trade stand, company report and presentation stages finally winning an award in the Health and Safety category.   Well done and thank you to all members of IOTA for such a great performance this year.

The Art and Design ‘Vision’ Show on Wednesday 12 June is now a much anticipated staple in the college calendar. The wealth of talent and the high quality work is the pinnacle moment for the faculty after a year of creativity and hard work. Some students at Post 16 have completed 2 or even 3 A Levels in Art and Design this year, showing the popularity and success of the department.

There is still time this year for our final major induction week when for the first time we will have all four year groups for next year in college at the same time. On Wednesday 3 July all the four Houses will be working together to welcome our new Year 10 and Year 12 students as they embark on the next phase of their studies.

I would like to wish all our students a safe and enjoyable summer and I look forward to celebrating with all year groups as they receive their exam results in August.   Have a great holiday everyone.
