The ability to make effective use of ICT is an essential requirement for most employment opportunities and for future training and education. All students at Groby will be supported and encouraged to gain an additional qualification in ICT.
This qualification is known as ITQ, and the awarding examinations body for this is ICCA.
This level two qualification comprises of 4 units of work that are completed through the core curriculum.
Course content
The units cover:
Desktop publishing
PowerPoint presentations
Graphical manipulation of images
Word processing
Assessment
A level 2 qualification, equivalent to a GCSE, is awarded. It is graded as a pass, merit or distinction.
Utilisation of ICT facilities
All subjects taught here make use of ICT equipment installed throughout the college. Each of the core subjects has access to a dedicated ICT suite. Where appropriate, student ICT skills will be developed and used whilst learning topics for these subjects and producing course work. They will be able to use the internet for research and email, plus will learn higher level skills in word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and desk top publishing and make use of subject specific programs.
Particular focus will be given to how students can use ICT for finding things out, developing ideas, making things happen and exchanging or sharing information. They will also develop an understanding about the potential role and impact of ICT and will be encouraged to evaluate the effectiveness of its use.
