Maths

The aim of the Maths Curriculum Area is to enable all students to enjoy learning maths with a positive attitude. Our lessons are planned in order  to motivate all students so that they can develop their potential and  reach excellence.

We put a strong emphasis on active enquiry and problem solving and are working with Nottingham University on activities that allow students to collaborate. We provide high quality learning experiences and  maintain attractive and stimulating classrooms. We have a range of ways to support students including  peer mentoring.

Students are grouped according to ability in years 10 and 11.  Each year group is split into 3 cohorts X, Y and Z and each cohort has 4 sets. All sets have 4 lessons per week. Most students complete one GCSE although many higher ability students may also complete another GCSE in Further Maths.

We follow the Edexcel GCSE Maths specification.

At A level we follow the OCR MEI course in Maths and Further Maths.

We have a suite of 5 classrooms each with an interactive whiteboard. A set of laptops loaded with the latest graphing software  is available solely for the use of the Maths Faculty.

We organise a number  of enrichment activities ranging from visits to the Nottingham Maths Inspiration show to enrolling students onto web conferences organised by the further maths network.  Each year 200 students take part in the UKMT maths challenge and Team Maths Challenge events.
